The Role
This role is primarily remote, with occasional visits to our central London office or research lab in Bristol when needed.
Over 9 weeks, Valnt Summer Research Programme interns gain hands-on experience as Quantitative Researchers.
You will tackle a challenging research project that demands innovative, yet practical, mathematical and computational analysis.
Your project will involve techniques from statistical modelling, optimisation, and machine learning in a real-world context. You may also build back-testing frameworks for signal robustness or develop a pipeline to simulate portfolio performance.
Throughout the internship, you will work closely with a dedicated Quantitative Researcher supervisor, who will mentor you and provide structured feedback to refine your skills.
The program concludes with your research being published in our Institutional or Alpha+ suite—exclusive service used by market leaders—earning you recognition in academia and industry.
Who are we looking for?
A strong interest in data science, machine learning, and optimisation for real-world financial challenges
Intermediate programming skills in Python, R, or C#
An interest in finance and a willingness to learn quickly (prior experience is not required)
You should be in the final year of an undergraduate or master’s program.
We are degree-agnostic, and firmly believe that quantitative skills can be learned on the job. But a quantitative or technical background makes the learning curve easier, and is preferable.
Active GitHub or Kaggle profiles are a plus. You may also include relevant academic projects with your application.
Why should you apply?
We know breaking into this field is challenging, so we created QF1 to provide the experience and guidance that open doors.
We offer unmatched access into quantitative finance, providing hands-on training, dedicated mentorship, and an in-depth view into our research operations.
Top performers can expect strong references, positioning them for future success. Interns who demonstrate initiative and a commitment to the highest standards may be considered for full-time roles upon graduation.
